Although she spent most of her time bonding with Bindi during today’s presentation, this female 4th-grader still found some time to bond with Hokshila.  This young lady most certainly would tell anyone who would listen about how amazing these Wanagi ambassadors are, and how thrilling it was to spend time with them.

Artist and Wanagi volunteer Rick May has established a wonderful rapport with Hokshila and the other Wanagi canines.  He not only volunteers at events and presentations, but also spends considerable time at Wanagi helping Stephanie and becoming increasingly comfortable with the wolves and wolf-dogs.

Prior to Wanagi’s visit, 4th-grade students were asked to bring any unwanted stuffed toys to the presentation to give to the wolves.  Bindi especially loves stuffed toys, and was overjoyed when he received this large green frog!

Wanagi CEO Stephanie Kaylan Speaking at Comanche Elementary

 

The 4th graders sat in rapt attention as Miss Stephanie imparted important information about Wanagi Wolf Fund and Rescue, as well as useful information about the characteristics and behaviors of wolves in general. She encouraged the students to ask questions, and the kids responded with eager enthusiasm.  On the stage with Miss Stephanie is Hokshila, Bindi, student volunteers, Rick May and Andrea Westwood.

   Comanche 4th grade volunteer girl with Bindi and 4th grade volunteer boy with Hokshila were selected ahead of the presentation. Both student volunteers were ready, willing, and able to assist in any way they could, and were immediately comfortable and affectionate with both Bindi and Hokshila.

Liberty was an alpha male Malamute/gray wolf that was born on Sept. 11, 2000 and passed June 17, 2015. His “people” were repeat animal-abuse offenders who starved and beat him. Despite all his hardships, he was trusting, balanced and loving. Suffering from Lupus, Liberty received daily doses of the B-vitamin Niacinamide, which had proven beneficial. Kola, like Liberty, is Malamute/gray wolf mix. Kola, whose name means “the wise uncle” in Lakota, and his sister Wihopa were rescued by the Humane Society in Flagstaff, AZ, and a volunteer from this facility drove the two wolf-dogs to the refuge. The pair were so near starvation that Stephanie thought she was going to lose Kola. Both Kola and Wihopa are completely socialized and are currently available for adoption. Milagro, whose name means “miracle” in Spanish, was rescued just hours before he was to receive “the needle of death.” A canine/wolf mix, he is fully socialized and, like Bindi, is allowed to roam about the WWFR grounds (both outside and inside the house).
